Partnership
on AI has now announced the addition of Apple to its founding members’ list.
The Cupertino giant joins the likes of Amazon, Facebook, Google/DeepMind, IBM,
and Microsoft.
The
group has also added six new independent members to its roster, thus broadening
its horizons and keeping a perfect balance between the corporate companies and
NGOs. Only yesterday we heard about Apple formally joining this coalition, so
it hasn’t taken long for the announcement.
Dario
Amodei (OpenAI), Subbarao Kambhampati (Association for the Advancement of
Artificial Intelligence & ASU), Deirdre Mulligan (UC Berkeley), Carol Rose
(American Civil Liberties Union), Eric Sears (MacArthur Foundation), and Jason
Furman (Peterson Institute of International Economics) are the newly added members
of the Board of Trustees.
The
goal of Partnership on AI is to further research on artificial intelligence so
as to bring it to practical use in our lives. The addition of Apple and a bunch
of tech companies will go a long way in realizing this dream. AI has come far
since its inception several years ago. Apple’s Siri, Microsoft’s Cortana, and
Google’s Assistant are very good examples of this.
Under
this new coalition, AI will certainly go much further in the years to come. We
have heard plenty about Apple’s ambitions with regards to AI. It is hoped that
we will start seeing results fairly soon.
